

Oak on the HillI needed a walk. Badly. So I threw some clothes on, grabbed my coat and my ipod, slipped into my tattered old shoes, and set out. I figured I'd head up to the hill about a half mile away. I needed a good place to ponder some personal stuff, and the hill's the best place I could walk to in the half-hour I was allowed out. So I made my way there, listening to the Mescaleros and the Beatles and some of the Clash's more mellow work and pondering, just as I intended. However, when I arrived at my destination, I found myself greeted by a grim surprise. The tree was dead. The genial old oak I'd visitedOak on the Hill

The endless fields of sky lay hidden behind a veil of silvery white; a veil only a scant few shades from the color of ashes. On this day, is seemed, Mother Sun had seen fit to wean us of her divine, life-giving nectar that we so quaintly know as sunlight. Gazing into the infinite folds of that vast woolen blanket above, one was pervaded by a sense of heartbreaking aloneness. I, however, paid this dreary atmosphere no mind as I made my meandering way up tOn Beauty, Life, and Death
